Short answer: New Zealand price guides published in 2026 put a professionally built small business website somewhere between about $1,000 and $15,000 plus GST, with online shops and custom builds running well past that. The range is wide because the guides are pricing different jobs. A one-page site, a five-page brochure site and a custom site built to generate enquiries are not the same piece of work.

What the published NZ prices say

Three NZ web design firms publish price guides. All figures are in NZD. Kiwi Web Design and Meta Digital quote before GST. Energise does not say either way for its build prices, and its guide was last updated in December 2024, so treat it as a floor rather than a current quote.

GuideType of sitePrice (NZD)
Kiwi Web Design (updated Jul 2026)One-page or micro-site$800 to $2,000
Kiwi Web Design (updated Jul 2026)Small business site, 5 to 8 pages$1,500 to $6,000
Kiwi Web Design (updated Jul 2026)Small online shop, up to 100 products$5,000 to $15,000+
Meta Digital (Aug 2026)DIY or template site$0 to $4,000
Meta Digital (Aug 2026)Small business site, 5 to 8 pages$5,000 to $15,000+
Meta Digital (Aug 2026)Custom lead-generating site$9,000 to $30,000+
Meta Digital (Aug 2026)Online shop or complex build$15,000 to $50,000+
Energise (updated Dec 2024)Static websiteFrom $1,500
Energise (updated Dec 2024)Content managed websiteFrom $2,000
Energise (updated Dec 2024)Online shopFrom $3,500

Notice the two 2026 guides price the same size of site, five to eight pages, very differently: $1,500 to $6,000 from one, $5,000 to $15,000+ from the other. Neither is wrong. Page count is a poor way to compare quotes. What sits behind the pages is what you are paying for.

Why the same site gets such different quotes

  • Who writes the words. A quote that includes writing every page costs more than one where you supply the text.
  • Template or custom design. Adapting a good template is quicker than designing every page from scratch.
  • Features. Online bookings, payments, a shop, member logins or a link to your accounting software each add work.
  • Search engine groundwork. Some quotes include page titles, descriptions, forwarding old page addresses and setting up Google Search Console. Others leave all of it out.
  • Who builds it. A larger agency, a small studio and a solo freelancer price the same brief differently.
  • What happens after launch. Some prices include hosting and support for a period. Others stop the day the site goes live.

What you pay after launch

  • Domain name: Kiwi Web Design puts it at about $25 a year, Energise at $45 plus GST a year. It depends on the provider.
  • Hosting: Kiwi Web Design quotes $25 to $120+ a month.
  • Hosting and maintenance together: Meta Digital quotes about $40 to $150+ a month for hosting, security, updates, backups and small changes.
  • Email: often a separate service from the website. Energise lists email from $5 plus GST a month.
  • Builder plans: if the site lives on a website builder, you pay that platform for as long as the site stays there.
  • GST: add 15% to any price quoted before GST.

Questions to ask before you compare quotes

  • Who owns the site, the domain and the Google accounts once it is finished?
  • If I already have a website, will every old page address be forwarded to its new one?
  • Is hosting included, and for how long?
  • Will my existing email keep working, and who is responsible for it?
  • Is the price before or after GST?
  • Is there a contract I am locked into, or can I leave and take the site with me?

Where Blank Software sits

No GST is added: Blank Software Limited is not registered for GST. So there is no 15% to add on top, as there is with prices quoted before GST, and from $1,500 sits at the lower end of the published ranges above. You own the site and the accounts, with no lock-in. If you already have email on your domain, we leave it untouched.
