Blank Software Ltd ("we", "us", "our") is a software studio based in Christchurch, New Zealand. We build our own products and deliver software and web services to clients.

This policy covers this website and our business dealings with clients and enquirers. Our individual products may collect information beyond what is described here; where they do, each carries its own privacy policy, and that policy governs the product.

We collect only what we need to run the business:

We do not collect payment card details through this website. We do not knowingly collect sensitive information, and we ask that you do not send it to us unless we have specifically requested it for a project.

Most of what we hold you have given us directly, by emailing us, calling us, or working with us on a project. Technical information is collected automatically by our servers as part of serving the site.

Where it is reasonable and practicable, we collect personal information from you rather than from someone else. If we do need to collect it from a third party, we will tell you unless an exception under the Privacy Act applies.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Our internal portal uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. It is necessary for the portal to function and it is not used for tracking.

The public pages of this site do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Where we use analytics to understand which pages are read, we configure it to report on aggregate traffic rather than to build a profile of you. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; the public pages will still work.

We share personal information only where it is necessary, and only with:

If our business is ever sold or restructured, information may transfer to the new owner. We would tell you before that happened.

Our infrastructure runs on Google Cloud Platform and Firebase, which means personal information may be stored on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States.

Before disclosing personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that the recipient is required to protect it with safeguards comparable to those in the Privacy Act 2020, as principle 12 of that Act requires.

We protect personal information with access controls, authentication, encryption of data in transit, and infrastructure kept up to date. Access to client information is limited to the people who need it to do the work.

No system is perfectly secure. If we suffer a privacy breach that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the Privacy Act requires.

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, or as long as we are required to keep it by law. Financial records are kept for seven years, as New Zealand tax law requires. Enquiries that do not become projects are cleared out periodically.

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask for confirmation that we hold personal information about you, to access it, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Email josh@blanksoftwarelimited.com and we will respond within 20 working days.

There is no charge for a request. In the limited cases where the Act allows us to refuse access, we will tell you why, and you can take the matter to the Privacy Commissioner. If we do not correct information you have asked us to correct, you can ask us to attach a statement of the correction sought.

This website is aimed at businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through it. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as our business changes. The current version is always the one on this page, and the date it was last updated is shown at the top. If we make a change that materially affects how we handle information you have already given us, we will contact you.
